Wrestling Taken to the Mat by Zion, Beats Carmel
A season opening loss has the team looking to the future and remaining positive.
The varsity wrestling team looked to start the season off with a bang.
The team put lots of hard work in the past couple weeks and wanted to prove it by going out and beating both Carmel and Zion. The boys ended up beating Carmel, but losing to Zion.
Sophomore RJ Vazquez won his match 6-1 Tuesday night.
“To prepare for this match I had to lose weight and also stay hydrated,” he said. “It’s a lot of mental preparation and at the same time physical fitness.”
De’Andre Burns, another sophomore varsity wrestler, wants to think past the loss and push himself and his team to be better.
“The most difficult thing about this season is losing,” Burns said. “Nobody likes losing and it’s a terrible feeling to lose but, don’t let it get in your head. Negative thoughts cause negative outcomes.”
