Winter Fashion Trends
With winter in full swing, new trends for the cold and snowy weather are rising.
The new year always brings new trends from head to toe. This winter season, there are styles being brought back from the 80s, as well as new ones rising.
The first winter trend this season is duck boots. The versatile shoe was popular in the 80s, commonly made by the brand L.L. Bean. Recently, many brands such as Sperry and popular outerwear stores are bringing back the old duck shoe style. While they were originally created for outdoor purposes because of their rubber bottom, the boots today are a fashion statement. The duck boots usually come in a neutral tan color, making them easy to pair with most outfits. They also provide warmth for the cold temperatures and can be paired with fuzzy socks. Senior Sommer Spencer, who works at Columbia Sportswear, loves the new trend.
“Through working at Columbia, I see a ton of people coming in to buy these winter boots,” Spencer said. “The brand Sorel carries stylish and warm winter boots that are a huge hit for teenage girls.”
Keeping with the theme of warm clothing, the second winter trend is blanket scarves. In the past few years, infinity scarves have been a popular trend because of how easy they are to style. Today, many people are going away from the old trend of infinity scarves and going to the oversized blanket scarves. They normally come in the shape of a square and fold out to be as big as a blanket. They are the perfect addition to an outfit, and they are great for keeping warm in the winter.
The last winter trend this season is cold shoulder sweaters. Every year, sweaters are a great go-to for a cozy outfit. This year, there is a spin off of the normal cable knit sweater. These sweaters normally have a turtleneck and have cutouts in the shoulders. While they still provide for warm layering, they pull some style into an everyday outfit. Senior Taylor Thompson loves the cold shoulder trend.
“I think it is a great way to mix up an outfit,” Thompson said. “It is a really cute trend.”
