What It Takes to Make the Basketball Team
With winter sports right around the corner, the pressures of tryouts are quickly approaching.
Tryouts are nerve-wracking for any and every athlete. Basketball season is starting and players are anxious for the beginning of the season.
Even for returning players, tryouts are difficult.
“The hardest part of basketball tryouts is trying to get back into shape for the season,” said senior Trevor Koch.
Making the team takes skill, hard work and dedication. Tests of endurance, speed and ball-handling abilities prove to coaches who is qualified to make the team.
“Coaches really look for how hard someone worked in the off season to see how they improved their skill. Attitude during tryouts is also really important. Working hard with a positive attitude can make a huge difference in the coaches’ eyes,” said Koch.
Even though tryouts are stressful for players, mentally and physically, the results from making the team are rewarding.
Senior Kyle Gofron, a three-year Varsity player, is excited for this upcoming season.
“Tryouts are tough, but nothing beats the feeling of being able to play again. After working hard in the off season and finishing tryouts, that’s when the best part begins,” said Gofron.
Best of luck to the boys this season.
