Antioch Community High School is about to undergo an exciting transformation as it unveils its new mascot, the Cardinal Crazy. The decision to change mascots started from the realization that the previous mascot, Superfan Stan, did not relate to the school and student’s identity. Principal Michael Berrie has been vital to this transition from one mascot to another. Berrie’s deep understanding of the school spirit and connection to the students has guided discussions and decisions throughout the process. His vision of incorporating the Cardinal Crazy into various events will represent ACHS and a sense of unity and pride among all.
“Some people might ask what a Cardinal Crazy looks like,” Berrie said. “The concept looks like a big, fuzzy, friendly monster. Similar to what the Philly Fanatic looks like for the Philadelphia Phillies, I envision Cardinal Crazy being involved in some promotional events for the Antioch community.”
A member of the Cardinal Crazies, senior Lauren Hughes, expresses her excitement about the new mascot for her school, which she believes will enhance school spirit. Hughes acknowledges the beloved previous mascot, Superfan Stan. However, Hughes believes, as well as other members of ACHS, that the Cardinal Crazy will be a mascot that all community members will love having as part of their team.
“I’m so excited to see what it looks like, and I think it will be a fun and good way to get the spirit up,” Hughes said. “I feel like mascots—you just look at them, and you know it’s time to have energy.”
With the thrilling reveal of the Cardinal Crazy, the school and the community are buzzing with excitement. This transformation signifies a change in mascot and a new commitment to school spirit and unity. With dedicated individuals like Berrie, Activities Director Teri Klobnak, Sequoit Pride Booster Club, and students leading the change, the Cardinal Crazy is poised to become a significant symbol of joy and pride for all.
Since the mascot was revealed last Friday, it is sure to bring lasting energy to future events and deepen the bond within the entire community. With its introduction, there’s no doubt that the Cardinal Crazy will become a cherished part of ACHS’s identity for years to come.
