The annual Volley for the Cure game honors those who suffered from breast cancer. Each year, the schools raise money for the cause.

This year’s Volley for the Cure was held at Lakes Community High School with a pleasantly pink and rowdy crowd.

ACHS players Marissa Grant and Amanda Spera scored their teams first point with a block. The game then swung into ACHS’s favor when Grant and Spera blocked and scored the point to tie the two rivals at 12. Samantha Falco scored ACHS’s 18th point by roofing the ball. By the time the only timeout of the first game was called, LCHS had taken the lead with a score of 21, leaving ACHS with only 19 points. After a few very tense minutes, LCHS won the first game when ACHS served the ball out of bounds, ending the game with a score of 25 for LCHS and 23 for ACHS.

The second game started with the first point going to ACHS after LCHS served the ball out of bounds. ACHS held the lead till their 13th point, during this time Elena Kelsh scored with an ace. By the first time out LCHS held the lead with 15 points while ACHS was left with only 13. When the second timeout of the second game was called LCHS held a firm lead with 23 points, leaving ACHS behind with only 19 points. At the end of the game ACHS was left with 20 points.

LCHS went home with their heads held high beating their opponents by five points and winning both games. LCHS’s crowd ended the game with chants of, “just like football”
