Varsity Profile: Krystian Nikolov
He plays with his heart on his sleeve. Every athlete could take a page from his book.
Krystian Nikolov is a sophomore who has been on Varsity soccer since freshman year, and loves the sport. He plays with his heart every game and never fails his teammates. This season Nikolov is playing defense for the Sequoits, and has tallied two goals thus far. Nikolov’s highlight of the year is rushing back to help his teammates, while their opponent shot the ball, and he saved it himself on the line.
Nikolov plays with his heart on his sleeve, and he has never backed down to a challenge. He has a knack for competition and the close games are his favorite.
“I love this sport. It is the best I have ever played,” Nikolov said.
More than anything else, Nikolov loves being a Sequoit.
“My favorite part about playing for Antioch is playing for his teammates and having the best coaches,” Nikolov says. “My goal is to win regionals this year and keep the tradition going, but more than all I just hope we all play well.”
One of the best things about Nikolov is his willingness to help out his teammates and the team as a whole. Senior captain, goalkeeper Alex Ruano is often times very appreciative of Nikolov.
“Krystian is a really likeable guy, he is a goofball and is always having fun. We are very much alike, especially in our competitiveness. He has a really big soccer IQ which a lot of the guys appreciate,” Ruano said.
Nikolov doesn’t feel pressure due to how old he is either, the most important thing to him is adding another regional championship to the trophy case.
“He is a great teammate, I couldn’t imagine the team without him,” Ruano said.
