On Saturday, Feb 5, the boys varsity basketball team played the Vernon Hills Cougars. The boys prepared and played hard, unfortunately, the boys fell short to Vernon Hills, with a final score of 41 to 39.
This season isn’t looking too strong for the boys, they are currently 7-16 and ranked sixth in the Northern Lake Country Conference. The team hopes to finish the season off strongly by winning out in conference play.
The boys played hard and did the best that they could do. “Saturday’s game went pretty good despite the loss,” junior Emmy Zamudio said. “I thought the team played very well on both sides of the court”.
Before the game, the team went over tapes and drills in order to be prepared and play the best game that they could. Not only does the team do these activities together, the individual players also have their own routines that they do to get ready for games.
“Personally, I watched the other team’s guards and tried to focus on what they did well and see what I could prepare for,” junior Kyle Glassman said.
Junior Ryan Emering has a specific routine before his games as well, “I get my ankles taped and then I get some food and read over the scout” Emering said.
The boys have another NLCC game on Tuesday, Feb. 8 against Round Lake. They played Round Lake earlier in their season beating them 43-32.
“I feel pretty good about the upcoming games because they are all winnable and we’ve been practicing a lot harder,” Zamudio said.
The boys are ready to bounce back from the loss that they faced on Saturday, Feb 5. They have been putting a lot of work into their practices to make sure that they are ready to face whatever is thrown at them on Tuesday, Feb. 8.
