Two Celebrations Too Close To One Another
The struggle of having a birthday close to the holidays.
26 days until Christmas.
26 days until junior Carly Mager’s birthday.
Being born on Christmas is considered a Christmas Miracle, but some might say it’s more of a curse rather than a blessing.
Christmas birthdays can be difficult considering some have to share their “big day” with a nationwide holiday. There can be dilemmas because of this situation: one might have difficulty shopping for the birthday participant and their Christmas gift all at once and the birthday person can feel less important on their day of recognition.
“Having my birthday on Christmas is sort of weird because family and friends don’t know whether to get me two presents or one, but I have gotten used to it,” Mager said.
Mager’s birthday falls on the same day as Christmas. She feels that although this is her day to be celebrated, she would rather treat the day as Christmas as that is what everyone else does.
Although some might have their doubts on holiday birthdays, Mager is appreciative for hers.
“I am grateful,” Mager said. “Even though the holidays take away from my birthday, many people do not even receive presents. I enjoy the holiday spirit.”
For Mager, she uses her birthday on Christmas to her benefit. She spends the day celebrating with all her family, grateful for their presence. Rather it be just another day or a holiday in which a birthday falls on, take the day to celebrate one’s special day for it’s their moment to shine.
