Cookies- Holiday cookies are arguably one of the biggest staples of holiday treats. One of the best parts about them is that cookies come in thousands of different shapes and sizes, some of the more popular ones including warm chocolate chip cookies and sweet sugar cookies. In addition to the different kinds of cookies, one can easily add their own twist to an old recipe. For example, instead of chocolate chips, one can substitute M&Ms. These delectable sweets are a perfect addition to anyone’s holiday dessert plate.

Hot chocolate/apple cider- As the cold weather moves in, a hot drink to warm someone up is the perfect fix for any chilly day. However, there are two drinks in specific that come to the rescue more than any other: hot chocolate and apple cider. These sweet drinks are a perfect holiday drink to warm up with. Sophomore Isabella McBride enjoys the warm drink.

“I like hot chocolate,” McBride said. “But only in the winter.”

Gingerbread- This famous cookie has evolved from a sweet treat into an entire house. Building a complex gingerbread cookie village is a common tradition for many and some even make into a competition. These sweets will continue to be a statement for many holiday treats.

Eggnog- This special drink is incredibly hard to find when it isn’t holiday time. However, the season of eggnog has arrived. The drink itself is fairly basic, consisting of mainly milk, cream and sugar. This holiday classic is only around for a few weeks, so one should enjoy it while they can.

Fruitcake- Last and possibly least, fruitcake. This snack is commonly known for its bad taste and overall dislike from people during the holidays, partially due to the unappealing look of the cake itself. Between the unpleasant taste and looks, this cake also tends to include dried fruit, which usually is not a first choice for many. Huffington Post feels rather strongly on the subject.

“When it comes to fruit cake, all we feel is hate,” Huffington Post writes. “How can you make fruit cake better? Our suggestion, just don’t make it.”
