Top 5: Best NCAA Girls Basketball Teams

With men’s basketball always getting more attention than women’s, sometimes women’s teams get over looked.

With 72 percent of sports viewership being focused on men’s sports, sometimes it is difficult to appreciate women’s sports. In 2016 the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship had 22.3 million viewers. The same year, the women’s championship had 2.9 million viewers. When March Madness rolls around, these are the top teams to win.

  1. Connecticut

Connecticut has solidified themselves as a dynasty in the world of Women’s NCAA Basketball. They won the championship in 2013 and have won every championship since that year. UConn’s players continue to perform every game so far this season. This year, Connecticut is 14-0 and is ranked number one in the brackets.

  1.  Baylor

Kim Mulkey’s teams over the past 14 years have won by an average of 28.9 points per game. This season so far has not been any different for Mulkey. Her team has nearly blown every team out of the water this season. The only team they have lost to is Connecticut.

  1. Maryland

Last year Maryland was not in the March Madness bracket, but this year, they are 15-1, and ranked second in the Big 10. Their games have been more evenly matched than Baylor’s. Their game against Connecticut was also their only loss.

  1. Mississippi State

Mississippi is currently 17-0. Even though their undefeated record has more wins than Connecticut, UConn has had more of a difficult schedule. Along with that, Mississippi is in the SEC. Connecticut has 825 points in AP polling and and Mississippi has 726.

  1. South Carolina

Last year, South Carolina made it to the quarterfinals but ended up losing to Syracuse, who made it to the finals last year. They currently sit at 13-1, only losing to Duke by 11 points. They rank one spot behind Mississippi State in the SEC, but are 3-0 in the conference along with Mississippi.
