Top 3: Movies to Never Be Forgotten

Although most movies gain their good reputation from popularity, some of the films that are hidden behind the scenes tend to be ones that stick with viewers the most.

“Pulp Fiction”

“Pulp Fiction” is a film that was released in 1994 as a crime/drama film. However, this is not your ordinary “bad guy versus good guy” crime film. The film’s two hours and 58 minutes consists of riveting plot twists with vast and unique characters like hit men, a boxer, a gangster’s wife and bandits. Through the magic of cinema filming, all of these characters’ lives end up intertwining together, creating many different tales in one sitting. The film’s cast includes actors John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson and Bruce Willis and was directed by Quentin Tarantino. To top it off, “Pulp Fiction” won 60 awards, including an Oscar, for its popular film and was nominated for another 65 awards.

Pulp Fiction is one of my favorite movies because I am a huge Quentin Tarantino fan and love all of his movies,” senior Adam Keller said. “He has his own unique style to directing and I really like how the movie isn’t in order, making you pay attention more.”

The Place Beyond the Pines:

“The Place Beyond the Pines” is a film that was released in 2012. Despite its lack of all-around popularity, it is a favorite for many. This movie is full of drama, crime, romance and thrill, but the most compelling part is that it is indescribable with its unforeseen plot twists. The film’s cast includes actors Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper and actress Eva Mendes. Ryan Gosling played a “bad boy” motorcycle stunt rider and is a popular film for ardent Gosling fans. This movie is two hours and 20 minutes long, but is worth every second.

“[Place Beyond the Pines] is really good because they split the movie into three separate major time frames,” Keller said. “It’s almost like watching three different movies and you see the point of view from a different person in each one.”

Demolition:

“Demolition” is a film of drama, tragedy and redemption that came to movie theaters in 2015. With Jake Gyllenhaal as the main character, the plot displays a wonderfully tragic scenario of a married man that lost his wife and falls deep into depression. Throughout the movie, Gyllenhaal goes through a variety of obstacles in life while meeting different people that help lead him towards happiness. This one hour and forty minute film communicates an incredible life lesson and journey of redemption.

Demolition is great because from the start of the movie, you are left with holes in the plot,” senior Jack Gabriel said. “I love it because the plot revolves around how something tragic – such as your wife’s death – can make you rethink the rest of your life.”

All three of these movies are unique in their own way. Despite these differences, they hold one thing in common: an intriguing sense of plot, making each movie a must-see.
