Theo Hill Wins Mr. ACHS 2016
Seniors hold mock pageant to showcase talent, poise.
The results are in and scores have been calculated. This year’s Mr. ACHS is senior Theo Hill.
Mr. ACHS is an annual men’s pageant that Antioch Community High School puts on for seniors to compete in.
The 2016 pageant had six contestants: Nathan Borries, Theo Hill, Mardochee Kamanga, Brian Mrowiec, Dante Schiavo, and Christian Vetter. They each competed in the four events: formal wear, casual wear, beach wear and talent.
From there, the competition was narrowed down to the final three contestants: Borries, Hill, and Kamanga. In this final round, each contestant was asked a question that they had to answer to the best of their ability.
In the end, three titles were given out: Mr.Talent, Mr. Congeniality and Mr. ACHS.
Borries won Mr. Talent for his unique and quickly acquired skill — painting.
“I didn’t expect to win,” Borries said. “I didn’t even know what to do so I YouTubed it and found this really cool video of a man painting sideways, and I decided, ‘Hey, I want to do that!’”
The titles of Mr. Congeniality and Mr. ACHS both went to Hill.
“I was nervous [waiting for the results] because Nathan had an amazing painting, and Mardochee busted out some nice dance moves,” Hill said. “I felt like it could have gone either way. Winning was obviously a great feeling, but I honestly didn’t see it coming at all, so that made it even more special.”
Mr. ACHS has struggled to gain contestants the past few years; however, this tradition is one that is cherished by many faculty and students.
“I’m proud of all of the other contestants,” Borries said. “I hope this is a tradition that continues to stay alive in the near future.”
