AMC’s hit television show “The Walking Dead” returned with its seventh season on Sunday. The season six finale ended with a major cliffhanger: a character died, and no one knew who. It left fans with six months of trying to figure out who kicked the bucket. The fans knew of one death, but the episode took a turn for the worst.

The premise of this episode is about a new character named Negan. Rick and his group killed a bunch of Negan’s people, and Negan was not happy about that. In the season six finale, Rick’s group gets surrounded by Negan and his people, and they have to pay the price for their actions. They all have to get on their knees in a line, so Negan can choose who he wants to kill with Lucille, a bat laced with barbed wire. The show ended with switching the camera to the victim’s point of view, giving fans no way of being able to tell who took the hit.

There is no surprise that this is one of the most brutal episodes of the whole series. One of the major characters gets beaten to death. No matter who it was, it would take a toll on the group. Fans all over the world were shocked by the turn took; not one, but two characters died. The victims taken by Negan’s beloved Lucille were Abraham and Glenn. Abraham ended up being the mystery death that fans were trying to figure out when season six ended. Once the camera showed Abraham, fans knew he was the death that everyone waited six months for. The show took fans by surprise when one of the most important characters, Glenn, was also killed.

“I was completely shocked that two super important characters died,” junior Katherine Barr said, who has been a fan of the show for a while. “I was super disappointed that Glenn died, after everyone thought that he died and then he came back. I never would’ve thought he would be the one to die.”

In an AMC interview, Steven Yeun, who played Glenn in the series, explains that he felt that if anyone was going to go out like that, it would be Glenn.

“For me, personally, I didn’t want anyone else to take that death, and I don’t think anyone intended to give it to anyone else, to be quite honest,” Yeun said. “It’s such an iconic moment, and I knew it was necessary to happen.”

Although many fans were upset and confused by Glenn’s death, some say that it just shows that the series is as brutal as it gets. Junior Will Witbrod explains why he thinks that Glenn’s death was a good thing.

“I think Glenn should’ve died a long time ago,” Witbrod said. “It makes the show way more gritty, and actually scary.”

The next episode in the season will air on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 8:00 p.m. So grab some popcorn, because the creators have officially let everyone know they are not afraid to push the limits.
