On Feb.14, Antioch Community High School varsity boys basketball took on the Grayslake North Knights and secured another conference win improving their conference record to 10-3. The team played with enthusiasm showing off both their offensive and defensive skills.
Senior Jack Majerowski made a three-pointer to kick off the Sequoits’ shooting game. Afterwards, senior Teddi Wetu stole the ball from the Knights and made a lay-up. With the Sequoits already starting out the game with taking many shots they ended the first quarter with a three point lead of 13-10.
To start the second quarter, the Sequoits held a strong defense against the Knights, allowing minimal baskets to be made by their opponents. These minimal baskets allowed the Sequoits’ offense to shine, with multiple players adding to the Sequoits’ score. For example Majerowski made a two-pointer as well as Wetu making another lay-up. They ended the second quarter at 27-14.
The half-time performance by the varsity dance team kept the crowd energized and entertained. Their dance matched the fast pace and animation that the basketball players were also showcasing.
To begin the third quarter, senior Marshall Gehrke obtained a steal, leading to his signature slam dunk. The Sequoits were able to go on a run for six at one point during this quarter. Antioch kept up their strong defense and then scored 14 points during this quarter ending the quarter, 41-24.
With the Sequoits having a strong lead against the Knights, they were able to do a line change two minutes before the game ended with the score being, 54-38.
The Sequoits continue to dominate at home with a perfect 8-0 record at home.
