Well-known rapper Kendrick Lamar has recently announced his tour with R&B singer SZA. The well-known artists have multiple hit songs together including a song from the famous movie “Black Panther’s” soundtrack, “All the Stars”. Though “All the Stars” was originally made for a movie, the song quickly grew into fame, as well as the pair.
Since they released “All the Stars”, the two have made collaboration appearances throughout each other’s albums, with Lamar first appearing on SZA’s album “Ctrl” as a feature on the well-known song “Doves In The Wind”. Most recently, SZA made two appearances on Lamars newest album, “GNX”, which she announced on her Instagram account on Nov 22, 2024. Just two weeks later, she announced she would be joining Lamar on his grand national tour.
Lamar took the stage this past Sunday, Feb 9, 2025, where he performed the halftime show at the Super Bowl LIX which took place in New Orleans, LA. He announced that he would be taking the stage in September of 2024 and announced that SZA would be joining him weeks later. Though Lamar held a spot in the 2022 halftime show alongside, famous rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, this will be his first major performance in nearly a year.
Senior Leilani Saldana has been a die-hard SZA fan for as long as she can remember and was supposed to see her perform on her stop in Chicago, ILL, for her “SOS Arena tour.” Unfortunately, she was unable to go last minute. Saldana is hoping to secure tickets to see the two artists perform together in early May at Solider Field, but those tickets are being priced exceptionally high as the pair’s new albums have grown in popularity. Though she may be unable to grab tickets to see them live, she is still looking forward to seeing the two singers perform together.
“I was so upset when I found out I could not see SZA live last year, so when I heard that she was not only going on tour with [Lamar] but, joining himL for the Super Bowl as well, I was so excited,” Saldana said.
Since the performance this past Sunday, the hype and excitement for the two’s performance has only grown larger. The performance was the most viewed half-time show ever, persuading numerous people on social media to repost it and to continuously watch it over and over again. The Super Bowl is already a well-known, celebrated weekend, especially bringing in many male views, and for the women, the halftime show performers are generally who captivate their interest the most. Senior Jade Nguyen is typically not one to spend her free time watching sports games, but once she heard that not only Lamar would be this year’s headliner, but SZA as well, she became much more interested in this year’s game.
Nguyen has been a fan of SZA since she first became an artist, dropping her first album in 2017. Nguyen fell in love with SZA’s voice and lyrics and has since then supported the artist and her work. This past summer, Nguyen experienced seeing SZA for the first time live at the popular music festival, Lollapalooza, which takes place in Chicago. Seeing the artist in person has since then only made Nguyen love her and her music more.
“Garden is my favorite song from SZA, yet it is one of her least-known songs,” Nguyen said. “I appreciate the underrated songs so much more because they do not draw much attention and I can just appreciate the song for what it is.”
The pair took the stage and performed two of their most well-known songs “Luther” and “All the Stars” as well as Kendrick performed his extremely popular distract against widely known rapper Drake, after teasing it throughout the whole performance. Fans from all over the world streamed the duo’s performance and are more excited than ever to see the pair perform together live, where they will have more time and more freedom to perform all of their songs. Fans can begin to prepare for what there is to come on their nationwide tour, which will be kicking off at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN in late April of 2025, and from there, performing across the country.
