On Sept. 4, Antioch Community High School varsity field hockey defended their home turf, taking down the Naperville North Huskies. The Sequoits went into the game on a high note after their first-place win in the Gateway Classic tournament in St.Louis. The victory on Wed. was a great way for the lady Sequoits to start their regular season. The final score was 3-0, with goals scored by Junior Erika Little, Sophomore Scarlett Carroll, and Senior Kaitlin Baylen. So far, their overall record is 4-0 and their regular season record is 1-0.
This dynamic trio led the offense with 39 shots on goal and 20 offensive corners, gaining a complete advantage over the Huskies. The team having a foundation made of 12 upperclassmen has given the Sequoits a quick start to their season.
Defensively they only allowed one penalty corner the whole game. Powerhouse defender senior Katie Smith is the reason the ball can get from Sequoit’s defensive 16-yard line to the attack end of the field.
Head Coach Terry Dewing has carried her team goals from the fall of 2023 to now. Each player has a personal and team goal before each game to stay focused and have a strong mental understanding of how to win. Dewing has high expectations for the team this season due to the effort and dedication to win by making the second and third efforts to score and achieve their goals. The team has a bright and promising season ahead of them. Come watch the team on Sept. 18 at home against Latin School of Chicago for their homecoming game.
