The Point Of In School College Visits
In school college visits can save a trip to campus.
As seniors get closer to the end of their high school career and juniors start to think about college, the process of applying to and learning about colleges becomes relevant. Students have many resources, mainly the Internet, at their fingertips to research and potentially find the best college for their specific needs and desires. Students also have the option to learn about colleges by going to in school college visits on specific dates when colleges visit Antioch Community High School. While useful information can be provided by colleges during these times, what is the main point? Students can simply access most of what is said by college representatives on the college website.
“They’re to help students decide if it’s worth a visit to that school,” senior Alice Bessette said. “It also helps students form a relationship with an admissions officer for a school that they’re considering. They’re almost like mini college fairs in that you get to meet and talk with the representative from that university, but you’re not overwhelmed by tens or hundreds of colleges.”
While a wealth of information is accessible online, a physical, breathing, admission officer or college representative provides more students with an inside look at that college.
“I think they’re useful because they help students learn about different opportunities and paths they can take,” senior Ryan Monaco said. “It helps students to reach out to schools they never would’ve thought of on their own because the schools come to them instead of the other way around, making it a lot easier on the students.”
The point of in school college visits is to inform students and engage them, in order to hopefully provide them with useful information and insight into that college.
