The Antioch Sequoits varsity girls basketball team played a nail biting game against sister school Lakes on January 31.

The girls started out strong with an 8-5 lead halfway through the first half. However, by the end of the first quarter, the girls started to trail to the Eagles 10-2.

By the end of the first half, the lady Sequoits were trailing to the Eagles 20-14.

The Sequoits came out strong into the second half, scoring layup after layup in order to narrow the lead that the Eagles had on them.

“Our defense was working really well, we played with a lot of intensity,” junior guard Piper Foote said. “I think that shooting and aggressive drives need to be the focus these next couple of games.”

Even with the attempt to bring up their score, the ladies still could not get a lead up on the Eagles.

Going into the third quarter, the lady Sequoits were down 30-25. However, junior guard Rachel Phillips gave the Sequoits a lead early on in the fourth quarter, bringing the score up to 34-33 in favor of the Sequoits.

Despite this strong effort, the Sequoits still fell short with a final score of 43-35 in favor of Lakes.

Overall, the girls played an aggressive game with many points racked up among the team. Some leading scorers include, senior guard Taylor Feltner and Foote.

The girls’ next game is February 3 at North Chicago.
