The girl’s Varsity soccer team battled the Waukegan Bulldogs last night in a hard fought game. During the first half, the Sequoits were having trouble finding the open shots to take. However, junior Rachel Moore managed to score a beautiful goal around the midpoint of the half; the goal was assisted by senior Teresa Furlong. The rest of the half the girls were battling back and forth with the bulldogs and could not find a way to extend their lead. At the end of the first half the Sequoits were winning, 1-0.

“The first half we had trouble getting our shots off, but we had lots of chances,” junior Danielle Brose said.

During the second half, the Sequoits found a new level and right away started attacking the Bulldogs. Moore found the back of the net again extending the lead to 2-0; she was assisted by senior and captain Megan Helgesen. Moments later the Morgan Keefer scored the third goal of the game, which was assisted once again by Helgesen. The Sequoits kept defending well against the Bulldogs. Helgesen got her third assist of the game by passing the ball to Moore for her third goal of the game, giving her a hat trick and giving the Sequoits a 4-0 lead. The Sequoits held off the Bulldogs and held onto their lead until the final whistle was blown.

“I thought it went really well and we did a really good job at keeping high pressure,” Brose said.

This was a big win for the girls from coming off of the night before against Vernon Hills. The girls have their next game at home hosting a tournament starting on April 13.
