College hunting is insanely overwhelming and can bombard you with so many schools, sizes, majors, extracurricular activities, location, greek life, you get the idea. Looking at colleges online and even visiting the campus is a lot of information to process. Focusing on a few thing while making your college decision can help.
Location– Going away to school is a huge change and everyone is different in how far they feel comfortable in going. Listen to yourself but also don’t be afraid to push yourself
Major– Some people, by the time they get into high school know what they want to do as a career, so making sure they have the major you want before you seriously consider a school is a good idea. If you don’t know what you want to do, go to a very diverse school and don’t force yourself into a very specific school: keep your options open.
Price– College is a very expensive investment. Looking at schools in-state can save you a lot of money but discussing a practical price range of schools with your parents is a super important discussion to have as the time to deciding schools comes up.
The most important thing when choosing college is to consider what makes you the happiest and the most comfortable. People will tell you that when you walk on a campus, you will know if it’s for you and I have found that to be totally true. A campus is going to be your first home away from home and it’s important to put yourself first in every situation. College is entirely made to benefit you and to make you thrive as an individual, only you can make this choice for yourself.
