October is college application month, when everyone is trying to squeeze all the college preparation into 30 days. Going into senior year, I had barely thought about college seriously. Unless I was just blind the past 3 years of high school, nothing college related was really brought to my attention. I know now that our high school and many colleges have a lot to offer when it comes to students applying for college.
One thing I wish that I had taken advantage of the in school college visits because it has nothing specific to with a major or if you really plan on applying, it’s all about learning what the school has to offer. If all you know about college is that you want to go somewhere in Texas, there is some schools who will come to you so you don’t have to waste time and money flying down there to just be disappointed by what you see. All you need to do is sign-up through Naviance and the day of go to the Student Center and sign-in.
Another thing that is vital to college is your essay. Naviance is such an amazing tool to use for college preparation. Not only can you sign-up to meet with colleges, you can use the website to show you school that fit you best. It asks about the size of school you want, the selectivity, the location, co-ed, anything that is important to you in a school. It is never too early to start looking at colleges. The more schools you look at, the better you’ll know about what you like and dislike about school.
“My favorite way to plan for college is going on college visits,” senior Katelyn Steuer said. “I like being able to see the campus and meet people who are interested in similar things as I am.”
College comes up so fast, trust me, so start looking now.
