Kale is a leafy green vegetable that can be added to almost any meal and has many great benefits many people are not aware of. Adding kale to meals can increase health in various areas. Here are some of the benefits kale provides for people.
High in fiber and no fat
Just one cup of kale has 36 calories, five grams of fiber and zero fat. It can also help with digestion.
Powerful antioxidants
Carotenoids and flavonoids, which are two types of antioxidants, can help prevent numerous amount of cancers.
High in vitamins A, C and K
Vitamin A helps with vision and keeping skin healthy. Vitamin C is good for the immune system, hydration and metabolism. Vitamin K helps with bone growth and can help with blood clotting, and if vitamin K is increased, it can help combat Alzheimer’s.
Detox and cardiovascular support
Sulfur and fiber are in kale and can be good for detoxing the body and keeping the liver healthy. Kale can also help lower cholesterol levels, fights against arthritis and asthma.
“I like to eat kale with salads or cook it in stir fry,” junior Alexandra Keller said.
