Essential oils are more than just powerful scents coming from strong plant extracts, and can help energize, get rid of stress and do much more. There are many ways to go about using them, such as using diffusers, applying them onto skin, using them in baths and putting them into lotions and shampoos. These oils can provide alternatives to bad chemical products at home. They can help a person manage health and wellness in a natural and safe way. Here are some ways essential oils can help a person’s well being.
Wellness
For nights filled with lots of exhaustion and little sleep, diffuse some cypress and lavender into the air to help with a better night’s sleep. Marjoram can help with insomnia as well, and mixing the different oils together is safe as well.
Homes
Removing certain smells from the air in homes can sometimes be tricky. Having a diffuser, especially for homes, can come in handy. Diffusing rosemary or lemon can get rid of cigarette smells in the air, and peppermint can keep ants and other unwanted bugs away.
Beauty
Moisturizing, cleansing and nourishing are some of the things one can do with these powerful oils. Lavender and frankincense are few of the oils to help with skin care. Lavender helps hydrates and cleans the skin thoroughly while promoting hair growth. Frankincense can be used for hygiene, as it fights tooth decay and cavities. Both oils can also help with anti-aging and acne.
“My favorites are lavender and neroli, because they help me sleep a lot better,” sophomore Savannah Gonzales said.
Mental Support
Some oils can work as antidepressants or be used to calm anxiety, like lavender and cypress. Basil can also be used to help with depression and help with concentration.
When purchasing oils, be sure they don’t say “perfume oil” or “fragrance oil,” because they can be non-natural products and may not give the health benefits wanted. “Pure essential oil” or “100% essential oil” are the natural, non-chemical ones. Not all essential oils are safe for animals, so when using them, be sure to check which ones are okay and which ones aren’t.
