The Awesome 80’s Prom Takes the Stage
Take a trip back to the decade full of acid wash jeans and big hair.
The winter play takes the audience back to 1989. The Awesome ’80s Prom brings classic ’80s movies such as “The Breakfast Club,” “Sixteen Candles” and others to the stage all in one play. The actors get a chance to interact and connect with the audience and later are given the opportunity to vote on who will be announced prom king and queen. At the end of the night, the audience votes determine the ending of the play.
Antioch Community High School Junior Josh Breezee said, “My favorite thing about the play is the improvisation. I always loved improv and liked watching it. It’s always a different story. I really like to get involved in some scenes and have my own fun with the characters or students.”
The audience will be able to come to the play and show off their prom dresses. This is the first time improv is being used and having the audience not only watch, but join in on the dancing and participating in the crazy events that happen throughout the play will lead to a memorable night.
ACHS Fine Arts Department Chair Wanda Teddy said, “It forces the cast to figure out how to communicate with everyone, not just the cast members, but also the audience. We want the audience to feel like there at the prom as well. I hope to see everyone dressed up like they were also going to prom.”
Be ready to show off those prom dresses and take a time travel trip back to 1989. The winter play, The Awesome 80s Prom will take the stage on Thursday, Feb. 26 through Saturday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m.
