Talking Trends: Teen Slang

The definition of just a few of the odd words that teens are using nowadays.

This week on “Talking Trends” we are going into an unknown world: a teenager’s brain. Teens like myself are very creative when it comes to making up new words to say. Here are just a few examples.

“Oof”

Meaning a difficult or an unfortunate situation.

Example:

Person 1- I have four tests today.

Person 2- OOF

“Bet”

This is another word for the phrase “I dare you.”

Example:

Person 1- I could eat three cakes right now.

Person 2- BET

“Lowkey”

Teens say this when they have something that they want to keep between a few people or may not want others to know about.

Example:

“Lowkey, I love this song.”

“Gucci”

Another word for “good.”

Example:

Person 1- I am so sorry

Person 2- It’s all Gucci

“Spicy”

This is another word for sassy.

Example:

“Wow, she’s being really spicy today.”

“Skurt”

To get out of a situation quickly.

Example:

Person 1- Stacy was being so rude earlier

Person 2- I’m gonna skurt out of this

“v”

A shortened version of the word “very.”

Example:

“I’m v angry right now.”
