On Saturday, Jan. 22, the Antioch Dance team participated in the Deerfield Sectional. To advance to the state competition, the girls needed to place sixth or higher; after an outstanding performance, the ladies did just that, placing third with an overall score of 85.63.
“I’m so incredibly proud of each and every person on the team this year; as I said before, we have been through so much together,” freshman Josie Quirke said. “When we found out that we had gotten in the top three, I was so unexplainably proud of us. We all have put so much effort into this team. I don’t think I can truly put how proud I am of us into words.”
The dancers had to compete against 14 other very talented teams, but the whole year the girls have put in a lot of hard work and dedication that seemingly has paid off.
“All of us were working nonstop,” Quirke said. “It took plenty of practice throughout the week and lots of cardio. Our weekly practices have even extended to being at the school for three hours on the days before competitions just to make sure we look as good as possible.”
The state competition takes place at the Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington on Friday, Jan. 28, and Saturday, Jan. 29. The Sequoits are beyond excited to show what they can do, and they are undoubtedly going to make everyone proud.
