“Star Wars” Movies on the Horizon
A definitive guide to the “Star Wars” films to be released by Lucasfilm and Disney in the next four years.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was released in December 2015 and continues the ongoing saga of “Star Wars” movies. However, the release of the movie kicked off the release of several stand alone and series films planned by Lucasfilm and Disney to expand the cinematic “Star Wars” universe.

- “Rogue One”
Directed by “Godzilla” director Gareth Edwards, “Rogue One” take place between “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope”. In this movie, a crack team of rebels will attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star.

2. “Episode VIII”
For “Episode VIII”, JJ Abrams passes his job onto Rian Johnson who will attempt to expand on the plot lines and characters in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

3. Young Han Solo Movie
Although there aren’t many known details about movies past “Episode VIII,” fans do know that Disney has announced a stand alone Han Solo movie. Alden Ehrenreich (“Hail, Caesar!”) has been hired to play the young smuggler. Other announced cast members include Emilia Clarke and Donald Glover.

4. “Episode IX”
Few details are known about the “Episode IX” film aside from the fact that “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow will be directing. This film will conclude the third trilogy in the “Star Wars” cinematic universe.

5. Boba Fett Movie
A stand alone Boba Fett movie is mere speculation at this point due to complications from a director change. If there is a Boba Fett movie released, it will likely be in 2020, as the other four “Star Wars” movies have already been mapped out. There have been no concrete developments on the film yet.
