The hearts of comic book and action movie fanatics are broken as Stan Lee, Marvel Comics author, passes away at 95 years old. After being rushed to the hospital on Monday, the chairman and figurehead of Marvel died due to causes that are currently unknown.

One of the entertainment mogul’s spokespeople confirmed to TMZ that he was hospitalized earlier this year with shortness of breath and irregular heartbeat from pneumonia. However, he was said to be doing well after the incident.

Born Stanley Martin Lieber, he began his career at Timely Comics in 1939, before the company was rebranded as Marvel Comics. He was known to create various superheroes, including the Fantastic Four and The Avengers. S. Lee has been writing and creating for a total of 79 years and has been cameoing in Marvel films for 25 of these years. Notorious for these short appearances, the legend has been shown in more than 50 movies. Captain Marvel, the next Marvel Studios film set to be released in March 2019, will most likely be one of the last of Lee’s cameos.

Lee is survived by his daughter, Joan Celia as his wife of 69 years, Joan Lee, passed away in 2017. The face of Marvel Comics believed in the art of entertainment, kindness and heroism. His stories will continue to be passed on through many more generations and he will be greatly missed by many.

“Entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives,” S. Lee once said. “Without it, they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing.”
