Saturday, Jan. 18, Antioch Community High School’s speech team competed in a Catholic Forensic League speech tournament that could qualify them for Nationals in May. After a third place overall, with numerous “Speekoits” placing in the top six in each category, six members will be advancing to Nationals and joining them will be another group as alternates.
Dana Legg, a senior and four year speech team member said, “Personally, I feel like I’ve come a long way. I went from never even breaking finals to breaking at almost every single tournament starting my junior year. As for the team, again it’s come so far. We used to have maybe six or seven people on the team, and now we have a huge fifteen person team and we place very well at the tournaments we attend.”
The team will continue to grow as they prep for four months.
“I’ve grown a lot and I can’t wait to see how things go at the national tournament this year,” said Legg.
Make sure to support the ACHS “Speekoits” at Nationals. The 2014 tournament will be held in Chicago on May 23-25.
