Softball Swings Into Season
With the start of softball tryouts, many are excited to see what the team has in store.
With the change of seasons, comes the change of sports teams. Softball held tryouts this week where many students were able to show off their skills. Tryouts include specific defense positions, hitting, speed and the basics.
Last season the girls finished with a 27-12 record, a regional title and a devastating loss to Carmel for the sectional title. Freshman Jerianne Bonaguidi is hopeful for this upcoming season and cannot wait to see what happens. Playing on Varsity has been a dream of J. Bonaguidis since she was little.
“Ever since 5th grade I’ve wanted to make Varsity as a freshman,” J. Bonaguidi said. “All the girls are so talented and it’d be an honor to play with them.”
Her older sister, senior Stephanie Bonaguidi would love a chance to play with J. Bonaguidi for her senior season since they are so close. She hopes that they both will be able to play on Varsity together and go far.
“I truly believe we have a great chance to go to state this year, and I can’t wait to see what this season brings,” S. Bonaguidi said.
Seasoned veteran, junior Deighton Butenschoen is also excited to see what is in store for this upcoming season as many different skill levels mix in.
“Some people are obviously rusty and others not so much,” Butenschoen said. “But I think we have a very good chance at going farther this year.”
With the entire team returning from last year and some fresh faces, the Sequoit softball players will be a promising team to watch.
