The 56 year-old, Mario Martinez Benitez, owner of Dockers in Fox Lake was brutally shot by his 63 year-old brother, Marciano Martinez, on May 16, 2023. The brothers seemed to be in a fight, resulting in gunshots. Marciano shot his brother, Mario, multiple times before then committing suicide on the scene.

Mario is currently in critical condition at the Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, ILL. while Marciano did not make it. The brothers were previous co-owners of the restaurant and Mario ended up having full control of the business. The local owner was a community favorite, everybody knew him and enjoyed his restaurant. Many were unaware of the conflict, those who were aware heard gunshots in the alleyway behind the kitchen.

According to ABC 7 News, a witness of the tragedy speaks on what he witnessed, “I was just shocked, I was totally shocked and I didn’t know who it was – it just said two people in the kitchen,” said Gary Klatt.

Many of the people who were eating at the restaurant were not aware of what had happened until later when the police arrived. Authorities say that there is no threat, however, the investigation is currently still undergoing.
