Girl’s Varsity Basketball won the fight over the Grayslake Central Rams last night, 40-27.
Before the action, senior Amy Reiser was awarded for scoring her 1000th point. Reiser received a plaque in front of the audience before the tip off, although Reiser scored her 1000th point in a prior game, the award was a great confidence booster and set the team off to a good start.
“We needed confidence to win this game. Central is our only conference lost, so having confidence was key to winning the game,” Reiser said.
The girls started off the game very hot as the score was 11-1 within the first several minutes of the game. However, with a few minutes left Central was able to break through Antioch’s defense and come up with a few baskets of their own. Antioch held over a ten point lead for the rest of the half.
“Going into this game, our team practiced hard, and our coaches studied Central’s defense and how we can break through it,” senior Emma DeJong said.
After halftime, the Rams fought back hard as they scored the first four baskets of the half. The Sequoits were not going to let up that easy. The girls continued to play hard and put passes together; the score was 37-22 going into the final quarter. The girls hard work payed off, by beating Central, this put them in the position of being tied for first place in their conference.
The leading scorer of the game was Ashley Reiser with 13 points, followed by Amy Reiser with 12, and Erika Gallimore with nine points.
