RAAD helps spread awareness of being drug and alcohol free.

Students decorate the halls of ACHS with red decorations to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.

The week of Oct. 23 celebrates Red Ribbon Week across the country. The Rise Against Alcohol & Drug (RAAD) club has not only decorated the commons and halls of Antioch Community High School with red streamers, balloons and other decorations, but also have set a list of spirit days that students and staff can participate in to help support awareness of being drug and alcohol free.

Monday, Oct. 21: Wear Red with a traditional “Ribbon Around the School” ceremony that will take place after school.

Tuesday, Oct.22: Neon Day with a pledge signing during lunch hours.

Wednesday, Oct. 23: Disney Apparel, popsicles sold in the commons for a dollar.

Thursday, Oct. 24: Patriotic Day

Friday, Oct. 25: Sequoit Wear

ACHS senior and RAAD club member Jamie Huber said, “Our goal is to get awareness to kids in the school who are peer pressured about doing drugs or drinking that they are not alone. It is to show people who we are and what we stand for. What we want accomplish by the pledges we sign and the ‘Ribbon Around the School’ ceremony. Everything we do this week is going off our theme for RAAD this year, 100 fun things you can do without the influence of drugs and alcohol, so in participating in our activities and dressing up, we hope to show kids that it’s cool to be this way, that you can have fun without having to drink.”

RAAD is also dedicated to promoting healthy decisions, developing leadership and impacting the community in a positive way.

Support Red Ribbon Week and a drug free community by participating in this week’s spirit days.
