Sequoits Look to Conquer Lakes’ Royal Rush in the ‘Battle of The Fans’

A new competition sponsored by CSN Chicago puts Illinois fan sections against each other to see who has the most spirited fans.

The friendly rivalry between Antioch and Lakes is currently being showcased in CSN Chicago’s new competition, “Battle of The Fans.” This is a voting-based competition between 64 of the best high school fan sections from Illinois. With matchups based on student population and location, the ACHS Cardinal Crazies against the LCHS Royal Rush was one of the many matchups picked for the first round of voting.

While the two communities are no stranger to friendly competition, students on both sides are taking this competition very seriously.

“One of my Lakes friends sat on his computer for an hour the other day, voting over and over again,” senior Michael Maloney said. “I think competition between our two schools brings us together and increases school spirit on both sides.”

As of 12:00 PM on Thursday, Feb. 23, Lakes has a hefty 84%-16% lead. While voting is open until 4PM on Friday, Feb. 24, some have said that the lead is way to large to come back from.

“Even if we lose, I still think that our fan section is better,” senior Alex Unekis said. “Whether it be [Antioch’s] water bottle noise makers or the ring of the Sequoit Call around both gyms during basketball season, we have a better sound and more spirit than Lakes.”

Although it is still up in the air as to which school will move on to the next round of voting, the winning school will move on to face either Ottawa or Washington High School. Students from both Antioch and Lakes are encouraged to vote for their sister high schools in the following rounds to show that District 117 houses two of the best student sections in the state.
