Sequoits Feel the Sting of the Zee-Bees

Despite the tremendous effort shown by the Antioch boys, Zion-Benton came out on top in the crossover game.

The boys basketball team took on the Zion-Benton Zee-Bees at Zion-Benton high school Tuesday in a conference crossover game. Despite a strong performance by the Sequoits, the shots did not fall where the team hoped. The Sequoits fell to Zion-Benton with a final score of 80-47.

The Sequoits worked hard to stay in the game, but the strong shooting and defense shown by the Zee-Bees proved tough to break. Regardless of the final score, the boys were grateful for the opportunity to try new setups and work on their teamwork in hard times.

“Even though the scoreboard didn’t show how well we played, I feel like everyone in the gym could see how we are starting to come together as a team and play like a team should,” said senior Fletcher Neville. “Zion is probably one of the best teams, if not the best team, we will play this year. What is important is that everyone felt good about how we played, regardless of the scoreboard.”

The Sequoits plan to return to practice with intentions of cleaning up their defense and finishing their shots, and are positive with how their work will affect their future match ups.

“We did a lot of good things in the game against Zion, and we look to capitalize on our strengths and work on our weaknesses in order to play like the team we know we can be,” said senior Danny Brito.

The Sequoits take on the Vernon Hills Cougars Friday, January 22, at Antioch at 7 p.m.
