On Saturday, Sept. 24 the Sequoits competed in an invitational tournament against some fierce competition. The Sequoits needed to play their best to get the job done. Since it was an invitation, the girls needed to be prepared both physically and mentally. The invitational was held on the Saturday of homecoming and their overall record for the weekend was 0-5.
“I think the weekend definitely could have gone better but it was good to play the really good teams that we did,” junior Nora Larsen said. “Our goals for the rest of the season are to work on our communication and work together to play better as a team.”
Going against the competition that they went against will only help them in the long run. There were a lot of distractions being thrown the Sequoits way with homecoming week and having to play five different games. It was difficult for the Sequoits to keep focus on the task at hand.
“We were all a little distracted because it was homecoming day and we were all stressed about not having time to get ready,” junior Ava Yeager said.“So it didn’t go as we had hoped, but we all had fun and tried our best against a lot of really solid teams.”
The Sequoits had a tough time winning at this tournament because of all the distractions. They play in these tournaments to get them ready for the remainder of the season and to make a deep playoff run.
“We hope to win the rest of our conference matches and play well the rest of the season so that we can start the playoffs strong,” Yeager said.
The Sequoits are looking at this tournament as a learning experience and hope to take a lot from it and use that in the remainder of their season.
“To win our games in conference and to practice and play hard so we can keep doing well in the future,” junior Olivia Marcell said.
All of the girls are excited about how the rest of the season will play out. They want to have a strong finish and take their energy into the playoffs with them. The Sequoits’ next conference game is Thursday, Oct 6.
