Sequoits Fall Short at Harland Invite
Girls cross country places 6th out of 16 teams at their home invite.
On Saturday, September 30, the Antioch Sequoits hosted the Harland Invitational at their home course, Fox River Park. The varsity girls earned 126 points, which allowed them to be placed 6th out of 16. The girls fought hard but ultimately let another conference team, Grayslake Central, secure the win.
“I think the meet went well because we finally had a day where it wasn’t 90 degrees which is really hard to run in,” junior Noor Abdellatif said. “I also think our top runners closed the gap between each other which is really good to see.”
Natalie Hill was the top runner for the Sequoits placing 13th with a time of 20:49, but Izzy Mateja was not far behind placing 18th. Another Antioch runner, Natalie Svarc, placed 29th with a time of 21:35.
The girls are looking forward to their next conference meets in hope to better their times and prepare for Regionals later this month.
The next meet for Antioch girls cross country is at Foss Park in North Chicago tomorrow, October 3. The Sequoits are looking for a win against both Wauconda and North Chicago.
