Sequoits Defeat Their Third NLCC Match-Up

The football team continues their stride by beating Wauconda.

On September 20, the Sequoit football team faced the Wauconda Bulldogs, beating them with a final score of 41-7, which made the Sequoits 3-1 and 3-0 in the NLCC. The Sequoits dominated in all aspects of the field and plan on us that as momentum.

The first quarter started out strong due to junior captain Athanasios Kaliakmanis easily sweeping past Wauconda’s defense and running in a touchdown the first play of the game, among the two others that he had that quarter. That play raised the energy very fast for the Sequoits and caused them to keep up that pace for the rest of the game.

“I think that the whole team came out and played very well right from the start,” Kaliakmanis said. “My performance happened because of my offensive line, the receivers and our stellar defense. The momentum was immediately in our hands.”

The offensive line displayed that they had the upper hand over the Bulldogs throughout the entire game with an additional touchdown by junior Gavin Calabrese.

“I think the offensive and defensive line both stayed consistent throughout the game,” junior Hunter Klotter said. “They both stayed competitive even after such a big lead.”

The defensive side of the team also played a consistent game, only allowing Wauconda to score one touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Players such as senior captain Ryan Shaputis and junior Ethan Holmes picked up the pace and paved the way for the rest of the team.

“The D-line is working really hard to make the jobs of other players easy,” junior Lucas Bentley said. “We try to disrupt as much as we can so the opposing team struggles.”

The Sequoits hope to continue their NLCC winning streak and keep their consistency as they face Grant Community High School away on September 27.
