Sequoit Track Takes Over
The girls and boys track team travelled to University of Wisconsin- Parkside for conference.
It was a successful night for the Sequoit track team, as the boys finished the conference meet in third place and the girls finished in fifth place.
The boys came out strong with junior Chase Becker shot putting 51 feet and 10 inches, coming in first. Along with C. Becker, junior Matt Becker came in third, shot putting 48 feet. Sophomore Charlie Smith came in first winning the 1600 meter.
Senior Javen London, junior Mikey Volkmar, sophomore TreShawn Watson and freshman Athan Kaliakmanis all received the title of all conference in three different events.
“Personally I can improve on my speed,” Kaliakmanis said. “I hope to win conference and have a few state runners on the team.”
The girls came out powerful in the conference meet with junior Noor Abdellatif earning the Northern Lake County Conference champion title in the triple jump. Abdellatif won with a jump of 33 feet and 41 and a half inches, she also set a new PR of ten feet in pole vault.
Sophomore Ayanna Tommy also had a night of success. Tommy got second in the 55 meter, third in the four by two and in the high jump. Senior Jill Everett threw 32 feet and 9 inches in shot put, securing second place.
“I think our team did really well last night, but there’s still room for improvement,” Tommy said. “I’m really confident in my team’s performance in future meets coming up.”
Both teams performed well allowing both the girls and boys to place at the conference meet. Head out to Carthage College on March 17 to watch the boys track team compete in an invitational.
