Sequoit Soccer Falls to Grayslake
The boys varsity soccer team lost 2-0 against Grayslake North.
The Sequoits faced Grayslake North for a conference match, Tuesday afternoon. After 90 minutes of play, the boys came up short with a 2-0 loss.
Before the starting whistle, coach James White presented one Sequoit and one Knight with the sportsmanship award. The honoree of the sportsmanship award not only shows excellent character, but also respect for his coaches, teammates and opponents on and off the field. The Sequoit whose performance best exhibits sportsmanship was junior Peter Boeh.
“It was great moment to have. It is an award only given to one athlete on every team, and I feel honored to be given this award,” Boeh said.
The first half was rough for the Sequoits, as Grayslake North found the back of the net due to a defensive mistake. After the first goal, the boys found their focus, creating many opportunities to come back. Unfortunately, the Sequoits were not able to finish, as the score remained 1-0 by the end of the first half.
Both teams went head to head in the second half fighting for the conference win. The Sequoits created many opportunities to capitalize, but had difficulties doing so. The Knights scored once again on a free kick just outside the goalie box; the game concluded with a 2-0 loss for the Sequoits.
The boys hope to defeat the Grant Bulldogs for senior night, this Thursday, October 6.
