Sequoit Season Comes to an End in Sectional Semifinals
Hard work and dedication to the game wasn’t quite enough for the Sequoits in the Sectional semifinal game.
The varsity boys basketball team’s season came to an end on Wednesday, March 9, when they squared up against Saint Patrick High School in the IHSA Sectional semifinal game at Ridgewood High School. Despite the undeniable effort shown by the Sequoits, the boys could not overcome the strong offense and consistent free throws by the Shamrocks. With a final score of 66-52, Antioch fell to Saint Patrick.
With a strong Antioch first quarter score of 14-8, the Sequoits proved to be worthy competition for the second-seeded Shamrocks. As the game progressed, the Sequoits began to lose their grip as the game controlling team and instead were left to play keep-up with the frequent three’s and hard stops from the Shamrocks.
“We really brought the energy in the first quarter,” junior Logan Weber said. “After that, we were flat and did not have the best night shooting, but we were still able to compete with one of the best teams in the state.”
The Sequoits brought constant hustle and dedication to every minute on the court, but unfortunately it was not enough to earn the team a spot in the Sectional final game. And for the nine senior boys on the team, this game was their last time on the high school court.
“It’s hard to say goodbye to the game,” senior Nathan Borries said. “I have played with some of these guys for eight years now, and knowing this is our last game together is sad, but my last season was certainly one I will never forget.”
