This season the Antioch Community High School boys varsity baseball team is ready to win and work towards their goal of claiming a conference championship. After their season last year with a record of 10-8, the team is now out for blood. Head Coach Franics Fracek believes the team is in a great position starting this season as they have a lot of talent stepping up to the plate this year.
“Our team last year was really young, allowing the juniors to fill the shoes of key seniors we lost last year,” Fracek said. “I’m really excited to see how some of the frustrations of last year ending will turn into something good.” Fracek said.
The varsity team has been having practice twice a day, one before school and one after in order to get out on the field as much as possible. The team chemistry has grown tremendously and the boys are in the right mindset in order to secure a promising season. The Seqouits have a great opportunity to play their first game of the season on their own field this season giving them the chance to be comfortable with each other and the field. Junior Jackson Mozina has now been on varsity for two years and is thrilled for this season. He knows the team is capable of achieving all their goals.
“With losing key players, it is motivating people to want and be better, so the team can work to be better than we were last year, ” Mozina said.
The baseball team has been starting to make a name for themselves since Fracek took over. He has been shaping the boys into better players with their practices, morals and goals. The varsity baseball team works as a program and are always looking for ways to challenge themselves and make them better as a whole; whether it is playing out of conference teams, having three hour practices or team bonding. The Seqouits are coming out strong this Friday, March 22 against Deerfield to show they are ready to pick up from where they left off.
