The field hockey game against Stevenson on Monday, Oct. 4, was a big one for Antioch. It was a thrilling game with many close calls on both sides, but in the end, the Sequoits came out with a victory 3-0.
This victory did not come easy for the Sequoits, even though the score would suggest otherwise. It was an uphill battle with a few close calls but ended in success.
This win was especially important for the senior Sequoits due to it being senior night. Senior night is a huge celebration for seniors to congratulate them on their performance throughout their time at Antioch.
The three seniors included Faith LaCerba, Katie Quirke and Maggie Volkmar. With such a small number of seniors, the field hockey team decided to have fun with the event. All three seniors had their own posters with interesting names for them as well as having their unique descriptions when walking out onto the field with their parents.
Junior Cameron Pluciennik put on an impressive performance during the game, scoring the first goal during the first quarter which gave the rest of the Sequoits a huge morale boost. This continued the momentum they needed to continue playing their best.
“The only thing I’d say [we could improve upon] is coverage [over the field],” Pluciennik said.
In the heat of the second quarter, LaCerba managed to secure another goal for the Sequoits. After a string of successful passes getting the ball down the field, LaCerba received a pass and shot straight into the goal.
The Sequoits were very satisfied with their performance but can always find a way to improve further.
“Some things I can improve on are my drives and passing the ball sooner,” Volkmar said.
Keep an eye on the Sequoits as they continue to dominate the field.
