Sequoit Defense Shuts Out Grant
The Sequoits battled the Grant Bulldogs with the 28-0 win.
Last Friday night the football team dominated the field and took a victory against the Grant Bulldogs. The Sequoits earned a rare shutout continuing their winning streak putting them at 4-0.
“We haven’t had a shutout all year. The team is pretty pumped about it going into next week,” said sophomore Kevin Tamayo. “Hopefully we go 5-0.”
Hunter Price scored in the first quarter to start off the game right. While the defense wasn’t letting the Bulldogs get any momentum, the offense continued chugging along. Just before the half ended the Sequoits scored again with 54 seconds left. The Sequoits end the half with a 14 point advantage against Grant. The defense held the opposing offense to zero first downs and were in complete control.
The Sequoits come out in the second half, led by senior Brandon Lind who scored his second touchdown of the game, which extended their lead to 21-0. Later, Price fought for another Sequoit touchdown and the lead was 28-0.
Even with scoring 28 points, all the attention was on the defense. Led by senior captain George Bessette, Grant’s offense never reached the red zone.
The Sequoits play again next Friday against Grayslake Central, hoping to continue their streak to 5-0, and moving up higher in the ranks of state.
