Sequoit Cheer Tackles Conference
Varsity cheer takes second place in one of their last competitions of the season.
The Antioch varsity cheerleaders went to Round Lake High School to perform in the Northern Lake Country Conference competition that included seven teams vying to win the conference trophy.
The Antioch’s performance was almost perfect, containing very minimal mistakes. The high energy level and strong projection of their cheer led the Sequoits to take second place.
Senior cheerleaders Rebecca Bargamian, Graci Leineberg and Jena Burton were recognized during the competition as it was their last NLCC conference as a Sequoit. To her surprise, Leineberg received the sportsmanship award to close out the night.
“I was very grateful to receive [the award], it was a fun achievement to end my senior season with,” Leineberg said. “I thought it was our best performance yet. We made some small mistakes, but the energy we put out there outshined all of our previous performances this season.”
Due to their amazing performance, the team’s confidence has increased and they are now prepared to face their last invitational of the season.
“Our conference performance was definitely the best of the season so far,” Bargamian said. “I’m very happy that my last conference ended with a great performance, but I’m also sad that it’s all coming to an end.”
The conference competition was one of the best yet for the team, adding another second place to their collection. With only three competitions left in the season, the motivation to make it back on the podium for the second year in a row is stronger than ever. Make sure to support the team at their last invitational of the season on Sunday, January 19, at Huntley High School.
