Recently many fine arts students had the opportunity to audition for the Illinois Music Education Association Honors (ILMEA) according to Weebly.com, is a regional honors music festival that is organized by districts. Students can enter in the categories of Orchestra, Band, Choir and Jazz. It is highly competitive and an honor for students selected. Students that are selected for the district festival also have the chance to be a part of the All-State honors group. Students who made the All-State group will be announced in December.
Students have been preparing for their auditions since last spring when the audition materials were made available and they had to either play or sing some scales and perform excerpts of pieces in order to be selected. Auditions were done by video in September. District 7 is a very competitive district with large schools such as Stevenson and Lake Forest, which both have large music programs.
Antioch Community High School had 8 students selected. In the Choir category; senior Redmond Heilig, junior Marshall Gehrke and sophomore Adelina Zack were selected. For band junior Lily Loose who plays the trumpet was selected. Sophomore Katelyn Swanson, violinist was chosen for orchestra. For Jazz vocalists junior Julia Johnson, sophomore John Stahl and junior Gabbie Salinel were selected. Each student that was selected will participate in the District 7 ILMEA festival, if they were selected for Jazz, then they will participate in the District 7 Jazz festival.
The District 7 ILMEA festival will be held at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview Ill on Saturday, Nov 4 Tickets will be five dollars each. The ILMEA District 7 Jazz festival will be held on Saturday Nov 18 at Lake Zurich High School in Lake Zurich Ill and tickets will be also be five dollars. Tickets can be purchased on the ILMEA website. Congratulations to all Fine Arts students who were selected to participate in this amazing opportunity.
