Secret Mean Stinks’ Biggest Assembly Ever
Hosted by anti-bullying advocate and special guest stars Bella Thorn and Bianca Santos from Disney, LCHS and ACHS participate in The Biggest Assembly Ever.
On Wed. February 4 2015 at 10 a.m. “The Biggest Assembly Ever”, sponsored by Secret Mean Stinks, took place and was broadcast nationwide for an anti-bullying campaign. Multiple high school from across the country, one including Lakes Community High School, were participants in this assembly. The nationwide event was hosted by anti-bullying speaker Keenan West and featured guest stars from the upcoming Disney movie, “The Duff”.
Co-stars of the “The Duff”, Bella Thorn, Mae Whitman, Skyler Samuels, and Bianca A. Santos discussed the importance of being an up-stander to bullying and talked about their own personal experiences with cyber-bullying.
Two students from LCHS along with three students from two other schools had an opportunity to share their thoughts on bullying, ways to diminish it and tell the audience of any of their firsthand exposure to cyber bullying and how they handled being a victim in that situation.
West periodically asked each school to take out their cellular devices and “take over” a different app on social media such as Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook by taking a selfie and using the hash tag #meanstinks. It teaches that with every post and every tap, has a chain reaction, creating a movement that can be so powerful, exactly like cyber-bullying.
A limited number of students from Antioch Community High School were given the opportunity to attend the assembly. Members from La Seleccion, Student Ambassadors, and Student Council were attendees for this event.
The Biggest Assembly Ever is a profound tool utilized by not only anti-bullying advocates, but by students of any age, victims, bullies, teachers and parents. For more information, visit this website.
