Schoenfelder Brings Home Antioch’s First Individual State Championship
160 pounder rolls through bracket as No. 1 seed to bring home title.
Becoming a state champion is what most athletes dream about; it’s what Varsity wrestler and senior Patrick Schoenfelder has been dreaming about for quite some time. For Schoenfelder, his dream became reality as he was crowned the IHSA State Champion in the 160 pound weight class.
Schoenfelder came in second last year during the state finals, and this year he was looking to redeem himself; he did just that. Schoenfelder was there to win, and it showed as he beat every person he wrestled by at least five points and had no signs of letting up. Schoenfelder beat his final opponent 12-5, after being ahead the entire time and staying in control.
A state championship is rare for any athlete, but was definitely well deserved for Schoenfelder. His season is not over yet; the Sequoit wrestlers still have team state to conquer.
Congratulate Schoenfelder, as he has truly made history inside the walls of ACHS by winning the first individual state championship in school history.
