REVIEW : Miracles from Heaven

Jennifer Garner shines in an otherwise dull film.

Based on a true story, “A Miracle From Heaven” definitely pulled at the heart strings and made you feel for this family who lived in a small town. The family of five went to church every Sunday and shared their prayers every night, until something hit the family, where they no longer wanted to believe God was there to help them.

The middle child, Anna Beam (Kylie Rogers), was diagnosed with an incurable stomach disease that would not allow her to process food. This was causing her to die, and her mother Christy Beam (Jennifer Garner) was starting to lose hope and flew across the country to see a doctor that they didn’t even have an appointment with.

The movie was aesthetically pleasing with the actors and the scenery. It was a good looking movie, and the actors knew how to pass their emotions on to the audience. The plot was simple, it’s evident they could not stretch the movie too far because of the fact it was based on a true story; but the movie felt short and barely felt like a movie. It felt like watching an hour and a half documentary, not a movie.

Some scene changes were choppy and confusing and left plot holes. One night she threw up, and then the next scene they were in the hospital saying how her sickness is getting worse. All it needed was a short little cutscene showing how she was getting worse but nope. Attention to detail like this is what brought the movie down.

Overall the movie was okay. Honestly to understand the movie and the entire plot watching the two minute trailer would be just as beneficial as watching the movie. So maybe save a little time and money and don’t make the trip to the theater for this one.
