October 7, 2014
Donald Glover, also know by his stage name Childish Gambino is quite the phenomenal guy. He’s an actor, writer, comedian, producer and a rapper. He is most recognized for his acting and comedy in the TV show “Community,” but is recently taking off as a rapper as well. He did have a couple hit songs from back in 2010 such as “Freaks and Geeks” and “Be Alone,” but none of his music became too popular until about 2011. In 2011 Gambino came out with the Album “Camp.” His career as a rapper was taking flight as he became more and more well known, especially after his 2013 album “Because the Internet.” A little while after his 2013 album, Gambino got right back to work. On Thursday, Oct. 2, Gambino dropped “STN MTN,” and caught the eyes of many fans, new and old.
The title of the mixtape, “STN MTN” refers to Stone Mountain, GA. which is a city from Gambino’s childhood. Gambino is known for his lyrical writing and really hits it off with this mixtape. This is just the beginning of the full album “STN MTN/KAUAI” which is expected to come out on iTunes very soon. Most of his albums have a theme to them and of course this one does as well. He refers to his hometown a lot and special landmarks in his town. He adds a personal touch to his songs similar to the rapper Eminem, who refers to events in his life in every song. He has an impressive flow and fun raps in this mixtape, along with unique beats, and guest appearances on some tracks. It is very intriguing to listen to. He is making his way up the charts and falling into a big name rapper. Gambino is gaining respect and popularity from not only his fans but also other fellow rappers.
